Requirements

Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The group teacher will be responsible for the social, emotional, and educational well\-being of students. This role will be responsible for planning and executing academic activities within the classroom setting. Through the curriculum, the group teacher will communicate and promote the Lutheran theology upon which the nursery school was founded.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach, supervise and care for children ages two to five
Integrate Lutheran theology into classroom lessons, attend chapel and conduct a Baptism celebration for each baptized child in the class
Prepare for, attend and participate in various school\-related special activities, including back\-to\-school night, school social events, theme days/weeks, year\-end picnic, and end\-of\-year clean\-up
Conduct in\-school visit with each student prior to the beginning of the school year, manage parent observation schedule and hold parent\-teacher conferences to discuss each student’s intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual development
Actively address and problem\-solve issues related to students’ growth and development with the Principal
Supervise and develop teacher assistant and student teachers
Decorate and maintain the classroom as an interesting, colorful, and safe place to learn
Comply with all required administrative responsibilities, such as keeping attendance, absence and accident records
Engage in ongoing professional development, including in\-service training, workshops and conferences
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Associate or Bachelor degree with a minimum of 15 credits in Early Childhood education and/or Child Development or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and one year of teaching experience in a group program for children under 6 years of age, which may include student teaching
Experience with special needs children preferred
Must have the stamina and physical flexibility (walking, sitting, standing, bending, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, running, stretching, reaching, climbing, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds) to participate in children's activities and communicate with children face\-to\-face
Must be able to accompany children up and down stairs in order to supervise activities such as, outdoor play and fire drills
Love and understanding of children
Must possess, maintain and renew CPR for the Professional Rescuer, EPI, Asthma and First Aid and CARI within 90 days of hire
