General Summary:
To function within the framework, philosophy, mission, and policies of CCN.
The Medical Advocate advocates for, and often provides, the training of medical personnel in order to provide such personnel a better understanding of domestic violence and how it can present in a medical setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The candidate must have a firm knowledge about the nature of domestic violence and its impact upon individuals, family units, communities and society. This candidate will be required to make community presentation and should feel comfortable in speaking before small to medium\-sized groups. She/he/they must have the ability to provide crisis intervention through counseling and advocacy resources for individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences across the life span. The incumbent should possess the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and interact professionally, collaboratively and assertively with others. She/he/they must also have an ability to communicate the principles of victim advocacy, and a commitment to the empowerment philosophy of the domestic violence movement.
Essential Functions:
1\. Collaborates with medical institutions to provide training, resources, and system\-wide awareness of signs of domestic violence encountered while working with patients.
Key Tasks:
Participate in the education and training of medical, nursing, pre\-hospital, social services, case management, and other health services personnel via live, virtual and hybrid programs.
Work with other staff, medical/healthcare organizations, professional school, and community based organizations as needed to plan, implement and participate in live, virtual and hybrid outreach efforts such as professional continuing education/community awareness conferences, health fairs, tabling events, mass mailings, library displays, the CCN Whispers and Roars Art Show and other events.
Coordinate with other staff who are providing outreach services and training to the community, including K\-12 schools, faith based organizations and community based organizations.
Facilitate the development of project oversite committees in various medical/health care settings.
Engage in βsystem advocacy effortsβ including hospital based DV/IPV task forces within medical/ health care settings and PCADV work groups to ensure development, implementation and monitoring of best practices approaches, policies, procedures and smooth delivery of services to domestic violence victims across the life span.
Assist in the development of paper and electronic project materials: including PowerPoint Presentations, a health care provider handbook on domestic violence/intimate partner violence, informational cards and brochures, newsletter articles, fliers, letters and email messages, social media posts etc.
2\. As a member of the Advocacy on Call team, provide crisis intervention, support, options and counseling to meet the immediate needs of clients in medical settings.
Key Tasks:
Provide intake, counseling, referral services and follow\-up counseling in person or on the Hotline and Text/chatline as needed.
Provide support, intervention and safety planning with individuals, other agencies and systems on behalf of clients.
As the scheduled Advocate on Call, provide emergency coverage in\-person after\-hours in hospitals, legal, or police settings.
3\. Represent Crisis Center North on local, regional, and/or statewide committees that represent the interest victims of domestic violence.
Key Tasks:
Serve as a co\-chair on all medical advisory/task force committees established with local medical institutions.
Represent CCN on funding and/or regional committees as needed.
Participate in PCADV Medical Medical Advocacy Task Force Meetings and related Work Groups.
Participate on other related committees as required.
4\. Recruit, train and monitor volunteer medical advocates to expand the capacity of CCNβs Medical Advocacy Program
Key Tasks:
Assist in the recruiting and training of new volunteers.
Supervise volunteer medical advocates and interns.
Participate in the 48\-hour training of all volunteers.
5\. Track and document service provisions
Key Tasks:
Document all client and client\-related contact on appropriate forms.
Compile statistics and other relevant data for submission in a timely fashion.
Submit regularly scheduled reports to funding sources.
Meet with the Assistant Director on a regular basis to develop planning and program goals and objectives.
6\. Contribute to organizational goals and objectives as a team member
Key Tasks:
Attend all required staff meetings, training sessions and provide reports to fellow staff
regarding program area as necessary.
Implement and support all strategic planning goals and objectives.
Offer support and assistance to all staff members.
Adhere to CCN Confidentiality Policy.
Maintain a professional manner at all times.
Must serve on hotline and as advocacy team member.
Must have reliable transportation.
Must have computer skills with MS Office, social media, Adobe, ZOOM, Teams and other programs used to develop and share CCNβs messaging materials and educational programs.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Masterβs Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Healthcare Administration, or related field with experience working in a health care setting for a minimum of 2 years is preferred.
Or,
Bachelorβs Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Healthcare Administration or related field plus a minimum of 5 years related experience.
