    About the role:
    Location: Kipohtakâw Education Centre (9 Kec Dr, Alexander 134, AB T0G 1Y0\) Alexander First Nation, and Edmonton, Alberta
    Term: Part time from September, 2025 – June 2026
    Salary: $11,000\-14,000
    Commitment: 2 days per week (during school hours) with additional time as required, with the possibility of compatibility with site coordination duties at Kipohtakâw and/or YONA positions in the city for additional teaching opportunities.

    Job Summary:
    The Kipohtakâw YONA Teaching Artist (Percussion) is responsible for providing music instruction to multiple groups of up to 20 students and works collaboratively with the Kipohtakâw Education Centre and YONA\-Sistema team to provide support for all students in the program.
    This is a part time salaried contract position working from September to June. The contract may be renewed on an annual basis.
    Teaching Artists work at Kipohtakâw YONA during the school day from 9\-1:30pm for 2 days/week. The Percussion Teaching Artist will work with 3 groups of students varying in ages from grades 4\-6\. Planning and preparation time outside of these hours is included as an expectation of the role, and additional time is required throughout the year for concerts, events, staff meetings and professional development.
    Expectations of the role:
    Provide instrumental music instruction to 3 groups of up to 20 students per group twice a week
    Lead students in rehearsals and concerts
    Work with a team of colleagues at your site and across all sites to provide support for all students in the program
    Commute to Alexander First Nation and Edmonton as required
    Collaborate with the entire YONA team and Kipohtakâw Education Centre staff to support strategic goals of the program
    Build trusting relationships with students and community members
    Other duties as assigned
    Qualifications:
    Advanced training in percussion
    Post\-secondary education in music performance or education preferred
    Previous experience teaching your instrument
    Previous experience teaching groups of children
    Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
    Current First Aid (Level C) Certification
    Clear criminal record check, including vulnerable sector search
    Competencies:
    General knowledge of elementary academic curriculum expectations
    Additional experience and/or interest in arranging, improvisation, conducting, composing an asset
    Competency in singing an asset
    Knowledge of the El Sistema philosophy and awareness of music for social change programs
    Interest in social justice and knowledge of trauma informed care, Truth and Reconciliation, and current trends in equity, diversity, and inclusion
